Day 11 & 12

Day 11

We convinced ourselves to get up and run ( it's amazing we still are doing that) and Kate was determined to have a solid beach day. Tim made some phone calls and bought snorkeling masks, which were probably the best purchase so far of the trip (only $20!) . Neither one of us had ever seen water so clean and clear, we could see fish, hermit crabs, and other sea life right off the beach.

That afternoon we met Tim's family friend Mrs. Grimm whose parents grew up in Zadar and spend summers there. Mrs. Grimm gave us a great tour of the city and it's history (as well as treated us to some great gelato!). That evening we watched the sunset on a dock and went to a local restaurant near Diklo, the section of the city we were staying, for some great seafood pasta and risotto.

Day 12

Kate was determined to go to an island, and Tim, although he did not want to fully admit it, did not want to spend the $40 for an all day island excursion. So instead, we took a ferry to the closest island from Zadar and rented a scooter (very European) and drove to different beaches and towns around the island. Tim drove and only crashed once (just kidding...he was a solid driver). Kate was not the best passenger though refusing to lean into turns which made maneuvering difficult at times.

We returned to Zadar where we swam by the famous Sea Organ, which was built into the stone wall off the water and makes noises when wind and water move into the holes..very cool. We watched the sunset over the water, which Alfred Hitchcock called the prettiest sunset in the world, and we both would have to agree. Tim had a huge calamari craving and Kate had a huge mojito craving which we both were able to fulfill that day as well.
